According to NHL public relations, the Chicago Blackhawks can become the first team in the Western Conference to clinch a Stanley Cup playoff spot.
The Blackhawks will clinch a spot if they win in regulation or overtime and the Los Angeles Kings lose to the Calgary Flames or win in a shootout. They can also get in with a shootout win and a Kings loss or if they collect one point and Los Angeles loses in regulation.
If the Blackhawks punch their ticket to the playoffs tonight, it will be the earliest point in an 82-game season they have clinched in the Joel Quenneville era.
Coach Q just met with the media and said that Marian Hossa is likely to play tonight after missing last night’s win in Toronto with a lower-body injury. Tomas Jurco or Andrew Desjardins are the likely candidates to be scratched. The Avs to possess a lot of speed so Jurco may stay in the lineup.
The Blackhawks head coach also said that either Niklas Hjalmarsson or Johnny Oduya will get the night off tonight. Oduya is probably the one who will sit.
Quenneville also confirmed that Scott Darling will start in goal.
