We’ve heard the cliché before about taking a series one shift and one period at a time, but that is no longer just a generic thing to say into a bevy of microphones; it has become exactly what the Chicago Blackhawks have to do.

The Blackhawks need to win the first period before they can worry about winning tonight’s game in Nashville, let alone two in a row. Getting the first goal tonight would be huge for the Blackhawks and the entire team will relax and loosen the grips on their sticks. We have seen this team score in bunches many times during the regular season, so hopefully an early goal can break open the dam.

Joel Quenneville made a couple of changes to his lineup at today’s morning skate. The most notable one is reinserting Jordin Tootoo into the lineup for Vinnie Hinostroza, but Tootoo took the morning skate ahead of Game 2 and was a healthy scratch so this could just be some gamesmanship from Q.

Speaking of gamesmanship, Quenneville did not have his defensive pairs take any rushes so we are not sure how they will lineup. He hinted on Sunday that Michal Kempny could be making his Stanley Cup debut tonight, but he was the last defenseman off the ice which is a sign that he will not be playing.
