The Chicago Blackhawks have had plenty of nights where their goaltenders have stolen two points this season and Friday night was Scott Darling’s turn in a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Blackhawks got out shot 19 to 9 in the first period, but had the only goal thanks to some sweet passing from Marian Hossa. Vinnie Hinostroza found Hossa at the side of the net, who quickly passed across the slot to Jonathan Toews where he roofed a shot over Cam Ward for his seventh goal of the season.
Artemi Panarin cashed in on a power play with his 16th goal of the season at 13:29 of the second period. Duncan Keith made a nice keep in at the blue line just before Patrick Kane fired a cross-ice pass to Panarin in the left circle where he fired a nasty wrist shot past Ward.
The Hurricanes got their only goal of the night with just over four seconds remaining in the second period when Victor Rask was able to stuff home a loose puck during a scramble in front of the net.
The story of the night was the penalty kill and Scott Darling. After giving up two power play goals against the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night, the Hawks killed of all three penalties on Friday night. Darling was spectacular in goal, making 39 saves, including stopping 30 of 31 shots in the first two periods.
The Blackhawks will enjoy a day off before hosting the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.
