Retired defenseman Sheldon Brookbank played in 351 career NHL games with Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks and he will now return to the Blackhawks organization to begin his coaching career.

The Blackhawks announced on Wednesday afternoon that the 2013 Stanley Cup winner has been hired to be an assistant coach for the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.  Brookbank joins fellow assistant Derek King on first year IceHogs head coach Jeremy Colliton’s staff.

Sheldon is the second member of the Brookbank family currently employed within the Blackhawks organization.  His older brother Wade, who spent four seasons with the IceHogs from 2010 to 2014, is a pro scout for the Blackhawks.

Welcome back!
