The Chicago Blackhawks former player and current analyst Eddie Olczyk has just released a very important update on his health.

“I have been diagnosed with a form of colon cancer and am currently undergoing treatment for the disease,” Olczyk wrote in an official statement released late Tuesday afternoon.  “I have been working with outstanding health care professionals and expect to be back in the broadcast booth after I complete my treatment. Having the support and encouragement from my family, the Chicago Blackhawks organization, NBC Sports and all my friends and fans means the world to me and will give me continued strength to beat this. My family and I appreciate privacy during this time as we focus our attention on my treatments.”

Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry confirmed that Olczyk underwent a surgical procedure to remove the tumor and will begin further treatment, including chemotherapy, in the coming weeks.

There has been no word on how this will affect the broadcast boost for both Blackhawks and NBC Sports national telecasts, but that takes a backseat at this time.

All of here at Let’s Go Hawks and the Go Fans Go Network wish Eddie a speedy recovery and send our best wishes to the entire Olcyzk family.

We’re keeping Eddie and his family in our thoughts during treatment and we look forward to his return to good health
