Today is a crazy day for Chicago sports fans as the Cubs play in the NLDS versus the Washington Nationals, the Blackhawks take on the exciting Maple Leafs in Toronto and Mitch Trubisky makes his NFL debut against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
Since Joe Maddon arrived in the Cubs dugout in 2015, they have played a ton of October baseball and even a pair of games in November last year. When the Cubs have a playoff game on the same day as the Blackhawks, there has been a fair amount of success for both teams.
Today and Tuesday will be the 11th and 12th times that these two teams will play on the same day during the Major League Baseball postseason since 2015. In the previous 10 games the Blackhawks are 9-1-0 while the Cubs are 7-3.
In fact, the Blackhawks have won nine straight games when the Cubs have a postseason game on the same day. The only time the Blackhawks have lost was the first time this occurrence happened back on October 7, 2015 when they lost their banner raising game to the New York Rangers while the Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL Wild Card game.
The Cubs and Blackhawks shared victories on the same day six times and they have never both lost when each have played during the MLB playoffs since 2015. Let’s hope this trend continues.
