Last year the Chicago Blackhawks and general manager Stan Bowman rolled the dice and gave defenseman Cody Franson a PTO.

While Franson did end up making the team out of camp, he would end up spending the majority of his season in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs. It wasn't all bad though as he ended up being a great influence in the locker room in Rockford.

Bowman decided to take another chance as he's signed defenseman Brandon Davidson to a PTO.

The 27 year old Davidson didn't receive a qualifying offer from the New York Islanders and became UFA, unfortunately despite the freedom that gave him, he wasn't able to land a job.

Davidson spent last season with the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders and registered four goals and three assists.

With Gustav Forsling injured to start the year, there will be a huge battle between a bunch of guys to earn the 5th and 6th spots.

Do you think Davidson has a chance to make the team?
