It’s an extremely sad day for the Chicago Blackhawks and their fans.

The Mikita family has announced the passing of Hawks legend Stan mikita.

"With great sorrow, the Mikita family announces that Stan passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the age of 78," the team said in a statement. "He was surrounded by his loving family whom he fiercely loved."

Mikita played all 22 seasons of his NHL career with the Hawks, is the teams all time leading scorer and a member of the 1961 Stanley Cup team.

More details to come.

Our condolences go out to the whole Mikita family and everybody who was close to the legend.
