Jan Rutta was missing from the lineup on Thursday night and he has officially been placed on injured reserve Friday morning, retroactive to February 6.
With Rutta on the sidelines, the Chicago Blackhawks recalled defenseman Carl Dahlstrom from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The 23-year-old defenseman is enjoying a great second season in the AHL with three goals and a career-high 23 points with a +14 goal differential in 47 games with the IceHogs.
Dahlstrom was drafted in the second-round (51st overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’4, 231-pound blue liner has been touted by scouts for his impressive position and great size and reach. This will be his first crack at an NHL lineup.
With the Blackhawks playoff hopes on life support, this would be a great time to give Dahlstrom an extended look to see how much of a contributor he can be next season and going forward.
