The Chicago Blackhawks get to spent the weekend against the Boston Bruins, a team that should be the model for rebuilding on the fly.  The Bruins returned to the playoffs last season after missing the postseason in both 2015 and 2016 and they are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Bruins got back into contention by drafting well and adding an influx of young talent to veterans like Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara and David Krejci.  Of course, they also changed both their general manager and head coach along the way.

The Bruins come in shorthanded as both Bergeron and defenseman Charlie McAvoy are out with injuries.  David Backes will miss the entire weekend series as he serving a suspension for an illegal check on Frans Nielsen of the Detroit Red Wings.

Boston has won all five games since Bergeron went down with a fractured foot.  Brad Marchand has four goals and nine points in that span to lead the way.

John Hayden was recalled on an emergency basis from the Rockford IceHogs this morning and will play today.  Vinnie Hinostroza remained in Chicago due to a family issue.  Hayden will slot into Hinostroza’s spot on the second line with Nick Schmaltz and Alex DeBrincat.
