The Chicago Blackhawks surprised some fans when they moved center Nick Schmaltz to the Arizona Coyotes.
So far the trade has worked out pretty well in their favour as Dylan Strome has registered 35 points in 36 games since joining the Blackhawks, way more than the six points and 20 games he registered for the Arizona Coyotes at the start of the year.
While speaking with The Athletic about how GM's prepare for the deadline, general manager Stan Bowman revealed how the Schmaltz trade came together.
"With that Arizona trade we made (for Dylan Strome), they had been calling us about Nick Schmaltz for quite a while. I know they liked Nick going back a year or two. He was never anyone I wanted to trade. We started looking at their team because we’d done a couple deals with them, we started looking at players that start to catch your eye. And maybe they’re not utilized or featured there and start thinking, ‘What if?’"
Fans have questioned some of Bowman's most recent trades as they've been questionable, however this one definitely looks like a home run so far.
