The Chicago Blackhawks just wrapped an insane week which say them play five games in seven nights. The week started off great with a 7-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks last Monday, but that was the one and only victory they would get.
The Blackhawks went on to lose by a goal to the Nashville Predators, both in overtime and in a shootout to the Dallas Stars and by two the Los Angeles Kings in a game that was scoreless for the overwhelming majority of the night.
Outside of the first two periods of Thursday’s Dallas game, the Blackhawks played fairly well. They could have easily won all four of those games, but instead only earned a pair of loser points during a now four-game losing streak.
These were four games the Blackhawks used to win. From 2010 to 2015 the Blackhawks were a team that always seemed to get the big goal in the third period to win a close game. During the six season span in which the Blackhawks won three Stanley Cups they had a .519 winning percentage in one goal games. This season, they have just three wins in 10 games decided by one goal.
This is a disturbing trend and if it continues, the Blackhawks could be sitting at home come playoff time.
